The Taliban recently launched a coordinated offensive against the U.S. embassy in Kabul with gunfire, mortars and suicide bombers.
NATO forces responded to the attack by returning fire, video taping and then uploading footage of the protracted firefight to YouTube.
As Wired Danger Room’s Spencer Ackerman notes, the Taliban clearly wanted a propaganda boost from the five-hour attack, as they called reporters to take credit for the strike before their offensive had begun.
“The assault came days U.S. Amb. Ryan Crocker boasted to a WaPo columnist that Kabul’s biggest problem was “‘traffic,'” wrote Ackerman.
However, the video is likely to undermine the Taliban’s propaganda effort, as it depicts U.S. Marines and allied NATO forces operating calmly under fire as they successfully repel the attack.
