Anonymous helps OccupyWallStreet march on

A brutal crackdown executed by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) against protestors has failed to halt the growing OccupyWallStreet movement.

Over the weekend, a number of utterly shocking videos hit YouTube, in which members of the NYPD force were filmed dragging, punching and assaulting peaceful demonstrators who marched on Wall Street to protest current economic policies.

At least 80 people were arrested, while up to five young women were hit with pepper spray after being corralled into a temporary holding pen.

“I saw a girl get slammed on the ground. I turned around and started screaming,” Chelsea Elliott, 25, from Greenpoint, Brooklyn, told the New York Daily News.

“I turned around and a cop was coming… We were on the sidewalk and we weren’t doing anything illegal.”

Anonymous, which has been at the forefront of promoting the OccupyWallStreet movement, spent the weekend rallying supporters on various websites, forums and IRC (chat) channels.

As such, the message of OccupyWallStreet has successfully spread under the banner of OccupyTogether – inspiring solidarity marches across the United States, in cities like Chicago (OccupyBoston), Los Angeles (OWSLosAngeles), Boston (OccupyBoston), Florida, Houston and Cleveland.
