Torchwood iApp to parallel Miracle Day

BBC and Starz have announced Torchwood: Web of Lies, an interactive application for iOS. The app includes 10 episodes, which will be released alongside each episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day starting this summer.

Each episode is slated to feature a portion of a day in the lives of Gwen and Jack, which occurred in the past, but which they have apparently been made to forget.

The episodes will center around ten three-minute motion comics, which relate to the events of that week’s television episode. Each episode will also contain some interactive content, presumably some kind of puzzle game.

While Gwen and Jack are obviously in the series, it will be lead by a character who currently isn’t.

Holly Mokri will be voiced in the motion comic by Eliza Dushku (whom you might know from Buffy the Vampire Slayer). John Barrowman and Eve Myles provide the voices for Jack and Gwen.

The story line is exclusive to the app, and the revealed details, and extensions of the in-show plot developments will not appear anywhere else, including Android devices, sadly.

This is an interesting experiment, and seems like a good tool to keep the audience engaged between episodes. If this is a successful app, expect to see more television shows try this sort of program.

The app will be available to download before the series begins, but each episode will only become available for access as they television episodes air. The whole 10-episode shindig is going to cost about $3.
