The flying cars of Total Recall

Last week, filming for the Total Recall readaptation was happening in Toronto. Once upon a time, only the few lucky fans who stumbled upon a raw filming session would get to see it in action.

Nowadays, of course, we are all able to view countless “uncut” scenes on the ‘Net, thanks to the plethora of modern mobile devices and YouTube.

In the first video, we see the slow-motion filming of a police chase scene under an overpass. The hover vehicles are sleekly designed, and we manage to catch a brief shot of Colin Farrell and his co-star Jessica Biel, as they relax in the car between shots.

Here Farrell’s stunt double hangs onto one of the hover cars as it is slowly raised and lowered on cables.

Finally, here we see a brief effects shoot, in which a car is apparently squished, then flipped over onto its top, as extras mill about the Toronto University campus.

Total Recall is a readaptation of the classic Philip K. Dick story We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

It’s not actually a remake of the Schwarzenegger flick (which was also an adaptation of the same story, though a looser one), despite taking the same name.

The film – which hits theaters on August 3, 2012 –  stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy.
