Metal Gear Solid creator says console gaming is dying

The creator of Metal Gear Solid has claimed that console gaming will soon be little more than a curious relic of the past.

”In the near future, we’ll have (Cloud-based) games that don’t depend on any platform,” Hideo Kojima explained at a Tokyo event covered by Reuters.

“Gamers should be able to take the experience with them in their living rooms, on the go, when they travel – wherever they are and whenever they want to play. It should be the same software and the same experience.”

Unsurprisingly, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan President Hiroshi Kawano reacted warily, but respectfully to Kojima’s vision of the future.

“It’s a bold prediction,” said Kawano.

“We hope he continues to develop for platforms, but we deeply respect his sense of taking on a challenge.”
