Kobo e-reader goes Android

Kobo is now Android friendly! The free e-reader app – which is available on the Android Market – supports the popular ePUB standard, including rich text and images.

“Now the fastest-growing mobile platform, Android has many new devices that are great for eReading,” explained Kobo CEO Michael Serbinis.

”We’ve adapted the features our customers love and expect from Kobo to ensure that we provide the best reading experience for Android-enabled smartphones. In the near future, Kobo will support other Android-enabled devices such as tablets, netbooks and eReaders.”

The Android-friendly version of Kobo has already garnered positive reviews from journalists and bloggers, including ZDNet’sMatthew Miller, who tested the app on his Evo 4G.

“Overall I am quite pleased with the Kobo reader for Google Android devices and find it much more functional and pleasing to use than Shortcovers,” wrote Miller.

“The text is very comfortable to read and is very clear and crisp. With the large display of the EVO 4G, reading with Kobo has actually become my primary method of ebook consumption on the go.”

Kobo is currently compatible with a number of mobile devices, including the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, Palm webOS, Sony Reader, Nook and Kobo e-Reader.
