HBO Go may come to PS3, Xbox 360, more

You  may very well soon be able to watch HBO from your TV. What a crazy thought.

Time Warner, HBO’s parent company, launched the HBO Go platform earlier this year for mobile devices. The Android and iPhone apps allow users to stream a huge catalog of current and classic HBO shows and movies while on-the-go.

However, users still need to have an active cable or satellite account and must be paying for HBO service separately.

Nevertheless, it’s more open of a program than Time Warner Cable’s iPad app, which only lets users watch content if they are connected to their own Time Warner Cable broadband connection at home.

Now, it seems the HBO Go app may be getting optimized for TVs, allowing users to watch their favorite shows from their PS3, Xbox 360, Blu-ray player, Internet-connected TV, etc.

It may seem like a pointless feature, because if you’re watching your TV, you could just tune into your cable box and watch HBO On Demand from there.

But this way, you’d be able to take your HBO subscription to a friend’s house, or watch content on the app that may not be available on the current HBO On Deman library.

HBO Go also gives users a better way to search through videos, with an intuitive interface and customizable lists. Additionally, there are behind-the-scenes clips and other exclusive material only available through the app.

So there is actually value in bringing it to TV platforms, but when that will actually happen is still unclear.
