Crytek backtracks on Crysis 2 system specs

A Crytek spokesperson is now claiming that a list of minimum system requirements posted on the company’s German Facebook page wasn’t finalized and lacked authority.

“These minimum specs are not official or final,” explained community manager Cry-Tom on the game’s forum.

“We’ll have an announcement about this soon… If you didn’t hear it from me/see it on MyCrysis, then it’s not official.”

If you think about it, Cry-Tom’s statement is certainly rather strange, as the specs were publicly published on Crytek’s official German Facebook page.

So why is the company backtracking now? Just who posted the specs – a clueless intern or an overeager developer?

Are the minimum system requirements about to be raised significantly? And if so, what will change – more RAM (most likely), or a next-gen video card?

Although there is no way of knowing for certain, it should be noted that Crytek has removed the above-mentioned post which listed the following specs:

  • OS: XP / Vista / Windows 7
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz, AMD Athlon 64 X2 2Ghz or better
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Hard Drive: 9 GB
  • DVD ROM: 8x
  • GPU: nVidia 8800GT 512Mb RAM, ATI 3850HD 512Mb RAM or better
  • Audio: DirectX 9.0c-compatible
  • Keyboard, Mouse or the Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
