Sweet details emerge of first 3D Honeycomb tablet, from LG

When it comes to the tablet market, it seems like there’s a new innovation every few months. And this is potentially the biggest innovation yet, as LG and T-Mobile become the first to offer a glasses-free 3D tablet.

The G-Slate was first announced last month at CES, but aside from its name we didn’t really know anything about it. But then, details began to emerge that it might incorporate the new trend that it glasses-free 3D.

By placing a whole lot of tiny mirrors within the display, the flat screen is able to produce images that appear to have depth. The result is similar to watching a 3D movie at the theater, but you don’t need to wear 3D glasses.

And that’s going to be the main selling point of the G-Slate. Aside from that, the other big story is it will be compatible with T-Mobile’s 4G, HSPA+ network. And it has Android’s new version 3.0 operating system, otherwise known as Honeycomb.

In other words, there’s a lot going on with this tablet. It has an 8.9-inch display, dual cameras – both of which are capable of taking 3D pictures – and an accelerometer for motion controls. With 32 GB of storage, an HDMI output, and Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor, this is a beast worth looking at.

“Tablets enable users to take with them the rich Web and entertainment experiences they have at home, and this will radically shift the way people interact with and consume content while mobile. The G-Slate delivers a powerful combination of premium mobile HD entertainment and T-Mobile’s lightning-fast 4G mobile broadband network,” said T-Mobile senior VP Brad Duea.

The product was made official today, but details about its release information were not. We expect it to cost quite a pretty penny, though. But it looks like it’ll be worth it.
