Windows auto restart swallows data

A reader has claimed that Windows XP will update and re-start willy-nilly and without warning, causing data already gathered to go up in a puff of smoke.

Tim B told TG Daily: “I’m still spitting tin-tacks over this because I’ve lost data.”

He said that while he was running a simulator his fully licensed and legal Windows XP Pro computer decided to perform an update which involved a restart.

“I was looking at another screen in the few seconds before the restart and then saw out of the corner of my eye the system shutting down. Aahh, hours of simlation work lost!” he said.

He said the system had swallowed a lot of CPU time on mscorsvw.exe since the restart and he presumed that the update had something to do with .NET.
