Firefox 3.5 release candidate 1 given to beta testers

/

Chicago (IL) – Mozilla notified Firefox beta testers earlier today that a release candidate of the new browser has been made available for closed testing purposes.

The new browser, officially called Firefox 3.5 Release Candidate 1, is not yet intended for public release and therefore only intended for “pre-release testing,” Mozilla said. In a note to its community, the browser developer asks testers to “hammer on these builds mercilessly to make sure that things work well!”

Meanwhile we also know that there will be more than one release candidate before the final version of Firefox 3.5 will be released. A Firefox 3.5 RC2 appeared on Mozilla’s FTP servers late Wednesday, indicating that the release of the software will slip into July.

Users interested in installing the pre-release browser can either find the software in Mozilla’s FTP server or simply wait until the browser download page is updated. At the time of this writing, the pages were updated to RC1 information, but the download still pointed to the now outdated 3.5 Beta 4 release.
