Samsung preps Galaxy tablet for September debut

W00t! Samsung’s long-awaited Galaxy tablet will be unveiled at IFA 2010 in Berlin. Although detailed specs are scarce, a sexy teaser video reveals that the 7-inch device will run Android 2.2 (Froyo) and feature advanced augmented reality capabilities.

Other notable items gleaned from the video include (via Techland):

  • Optional Swype keyboard.
  • Video conferencing.
  • Rear facing camera.
  • HD movie playback.
  • Can function as an E-reader.
  • Full web browsing with Flash support.

Well, as mentioned above, official details are rather few and far between, but Engadget has managed to track down the following (unconfirmed prototype) specs originally posted on ifanr.com:

  • Plasticky and much lighter than the iPad.
  • 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution.
  • 3.2 megapixel camera.
  • Integrated e-book app.

Samsung has also launched a Galaxy Tab website which can be accessed here.

Yeah, I know we’ll have to wait till September 2 for hard-core data such as processor class and speed, resolution and ports – but the tablet is looking pretty sweet right about now.

It could even shape up to be a real iPad killer, to say nothing of a viable alternative to Dell’s Streak.
