Next-gen iPad expected at March 2 Apple event

Apple is expected to unveil its long-awaited iPad 2 at a special event in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on March 2 at 10:00am PST.

The official announcement comes just hours after AllThingsD reported that Cupertino was planning to unwrap its next-gen tablet in San Francisco on the above-mentioned date.

Although Apple has yet to announce any official specs, the iPad 2 is expected to boast an upgraded display with improved anti-reflection capabilities.

The device is also likely to be thinner and lighter, with more RAM, a faster CPU, FaceTime camera and upgraded graphics processing capabilities.

Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities told AppleInsider that Foxconn has been tapped to build between 4.5 million and 5 million iPad 2 units during the first quarter of 2011, followed by another 3 million to 4 million units in April.
