LG’s glasses-free 3D phone will be just $99

The second smartphone to hit the market with true 3D display functionality will be 50% cheaper than the first.

Namely, the LG Thrill 4G – which is poised to be offered exclusively through AT&T – will carry a price tag of just $99.

That significantly undercuts Sprint’s HTC Evo 3D, which currently sells for $200. Both prices are effective for customers who sign up for a new two-year service agreement.

The Thrill 4G also promises something that Evo 3D owners have been sorely missing so far – 3D content. The Thrill will come with a selection of 3D games and movies, while the Evo has been on a marketing campaign to encourage users to create their own 3D content with the device’s built-in camera.

Because it’s coming out later, the Thrill is also the most up-to-date. Its technical specs include a 1 GHz dual-core OMAP4430 processor, 512 MB of dual channel RAM, and a 3D camera.

Where the biggest difference, though, is of course in the mobile networks. Sprint’s 4G network is reliable though it may not be the fastest around. But AT&T’s is even slower, and many have blasted the carrier for causing confusion to the term ‘4G,’ saying it shouldn’t really even use it to describe its current spectrum.

So it’s really a tough choice to consumers who have the exceeding luxury of getting to choose what mobile carrier they want. However, Evo 3D owners can be assured that as more phones like the Thrill 4G hit the market, the content will eventually fall into place.
