Is this AMOLED display manufactured out of Kryptonite?

Samsung has reportedly designed an “indestructible” AMOLED display capable of withstanding the wrath of a swinging hammer.

No, this remarkable display isn’t manufactured out of Kryptonite, but rather, a flexible piece of plastic coated with advanced polyimide film.

“Samsung’s process in making the indestructible screen is to put a thin film transistor (TFT) on the plastic panel and to replace the vinyl protection sheet with polyimide film,” explained Gizmodo’s Casey Chan.

“Of course, if you drop your phone the glass will still break, but at least you’ll have a working touchscreen underneath the shards.”

According to OLED Display, Samsung plans to start producing the uber-cool screens for mobile devices by 2012.
