Chip giant Intel formally announced a series of microprocessors based on its Nehalem microarchitecture.
The chips belong to the Core i5 and the Core i7 family and include a number of Xeon 3400 server chips too.
Intel also said that its P55 Express chipset is also available today.
The Core i7 and Core i5 CPUs integrate a 16-lane PCI Express 2 graphics port and two channel memory controller, so input and output are handed by the single chip P55 Express chipset. There’s a direct media interface connecting both, while the chipset supports eight PCI Express 2.0 x 1 ports at 2.5GT/s.
The chipset also supports dual graphics cards, six S-ATA 3GB/s ports and up to 14 USB 2.0 ports. The CPUs use a land grid array 1156 package.
The table below gives processor speed and other details. The chips support what Intel calls “Turbo Boost” which can up the processor speed depending on the usage.
