Asus introduces Superspeed USB 3.0 mobo

Taiwanese manufacturer Asustek said it has introduced a mobo for PCs that incorporates two USB 3.0 ports.

USB 3.0, or Superspeed as it’s known, is set to be introduced in a range of products including peripherals towards the end of this year and throughout 2010.

The board, dubbed the Xtreme Design P7DP55DE-E uses Intel’s P55 Express chipset, and even though this chipset does not support USB 3.0, Asus has added in support from an unknown third party manufacturer.

Intel is rumored not to be ready to introduce USB 3.0 chipsets for quite some time.

As well as the USB 3.0 ports, the Asus motherboard includes 10 USB 2.0 ports, as well two six GB/sec S-ATA ports.

The board will be ready to ship in December and is estimated to cost $300.
