Ebay mobile usage explodes over the holidays

Increasing its presence in the mobile world seems to have done wonders for Ebay, as sales made over iPhone, Android, and other phones during the holiday season grew by more than 134% over last year.

During the period of November 25 to December 25, 2010, Ebay says total gross sales generated through its mobile apps totaled nearly $100 million. During that same period of 2009, the number was less than $43 million, according to Tech Crunch.

It’s been a great year for Ebay. Millions of dollars were sold through the regular site as well during the holiday shopping season. But it was its mobile presence where Ebay made the most strides.

The online auction site has pushed heavily to increase awareness of its mobile presence, and has worked hard to make its iPhone and Android apps as user-friendly as possible.

The Ebay iPhone app alone has been downloaded more than 13 million times, and its mobile site has seen millions more visits.

The best news for Ebay was that mobile app usage continued to increase later on into the holiday shopping season. That’s a good sign that more and more people became aware of it as time went on. So, perhaps, 2011 will see even greater growth.
