Desperate Apple junkies pay $2,260 for iPad

A number of desperate Apple junkies in India have apparently managed to stave off painful withdrawal symptoms by shelling out over $2,000 for a single iPad.

According to Bloomberg, Amit Jain of Mumbai has sold five ($699) 64-gigabyte iPads for 100,000 rupees ($2,258) each.

The tablets, which may very well be worth their weight in gold, were shipped to India via the so-called gray market by unofficial distributors.

“We have customers who are willing to buy,” Jain told Bloomberg.

”So we maintain our margins.”

The overhyped iPad is currently only available in the US, but will be shipped to eager fanbois in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K. sometime during late April.

Meanwhile, Brian Marshall, an analyst at Broadpoint AmTech Inc, has predicted that 4 million of iPads will be sold worldwide by the end of 2010.

“The international component for the iPad will be important,” Marshall explained in a telephone interview with Bloomberg.

“This is going to be a wildly successful product.”
