Chief iPhone gaming exec leaves Apple

You may not have ever heard of Graeme Devine, but if you played a game on your iPhone in the last year you owe him a debt of gratitude. The head honcho in charge of bringing quality games to the mobile platform no longer works at Apple.

Devine left of his own volition and officially severed ties with his former employee last Friday. Like so many other talented people in this industry, Devine has decided to start his own company, reports Kotaku.

“My job there was basically to make gaming on the iOS devices fantastic,” he said. He looked back on his time with Apple with fondness. “No other app type covers so many technologies and having someone there to validate and help shape that was basically my day job. It was pretty kick ass,” he told Kotaku.

But now it’s on to more adventurous pastures, as Devine goes to the other side of the spectrum and starts developing third-party games for the iPhone and iPad, as well as other devices.

A developer by trade, Devine said he yearned to go back to the days when making games was all he did, and in the current environment it is really a developer’s world. With so much flexibility, opportunity, and possibilities out there, it should be like a kid in a candy store for anyone who wants to make games.

Devine’s first project now that he doesn’t work for Apple anymore looks like it’ll be some sort of medieval adventure or something. At least, that’s what the above screenshot would suggest. He didn’t elaborate on it except to say it would be a title for Mac computers.

Apple’s gaming unit now has numerous developers. It is unclear who will take over Devine’s old spot.
