Best Buy may have leaked price, launch date of Xoom

Unless someone went to the trouble of creating and leaking a fake Best Buy ad, it looks like Motorola’s Xoom tablet will be available in the big box store on February 24 for $800.

Engadget got its hands on what appears to be a copy of a future Best Buy circular. We would assume it is the ad set to appear in Sunday newspapers on February 20.

In it, the Xoom is shown with a $799.99 price tag and the text “Available in store Thursday, February 24.” There’s also a “Custom Fit Folio” stand/case for $39.99.

Also shown in the ad are Verizon’s data plans for the Xoom. Customers can sign up for as much as 10 GB of data per month, with rates as follows:

1 GB – $20/month

3 GB – $35/month

5 GB – $50/month

10 GB – $80/month

The Xoom will launch with only 3G connectivity, however Motorola said in the future it will be able to update the firmware so it is 4G-equipped. The device is only available with Verizon Wireless service.

It is the 4G promise that makes the Xoom stand out. Aside from that, it has a 10.1-inch display, 1 GB of RAM, and dual cameras (2 MP front-facing, and 5 MP rear-facing).

An $800 price tag would most certainly price it out of the realm of possibility for many consumers, making it more expensive than almost every other tablet on the market, including the iPad.
