AT&T embraces Android with Samsung Captivate

AT&T has finally caught Android fever! Yes, the carrier is teaming up with Samsung to sell the Captivate – a very sexy member of the Galaxy S family.

The new smartphone is powered by a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor and runs Android 2.1, which will presumably be upgradeable to Froyo (2.2).

The Captivate also features a 4-inch super AMOLED touchscreen, 5.0-megapixel camera, 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, 16 GB of on-board memory and 16 GB expandable.

In addition, the device boasts a six-axis sensor that combines the accelerometer and gyroscope, along with a UI which supports a series of advanced touch screen gestures, such as multi-touch pinch, long tap and zoom and vertical and horizontal swiping.
