Samsung showcases Series 7 Ultra and thinner Series 7 Chronos

With CES 2013 kicking off this week, the product announcements are starting to roll out in force from a number of industry heavyweights like Samsung, which recently debuted a new Series 7 Ultra, along with a refreshed Series 7 Chronos ultrabook.

Essentially, the Ultra is a 13-inch ultrabook available in two primary configurations – one with an integrated touchscreen and the other with a standard display.

The systems are equipped with Core i5/ i7 processors, 128 GB-256 GB of storage and up to 16GB of RAM. Both displays support full HD resolution and are rated for 350-nit brightness.

Additional specs include a backlit keyboard, integrated JBL speakers, an AMD HD 8570M GPU, two USB 2.0 ports, a single USB 3.0 port, HDMI, Ethernet, mini-VGA, a memory card reader and an 8-hour battery.

Samsung is also showcasing its updated Series 7 Chronos, a 15-inch ultrabook loaded with AMD’s new Radeon HD 8870M GPU. The updated machine boasts a thinner chassis at 0.82-inches – compared to the 0.94-inches of the previous model.

The latest iteration of the Series 7 Chronos is powered by a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 3635QM CPU, a full HD resolution display, up to 16 GB of RAM, and up to 1 TB of storage.

The machine can be fitted with an optional touchscreen and features a backlit keyboard. The onboard sound system is via JBL speakers and the battery promises up to 11 hours of use per charge.
