I scream, you scream, we all scream for on-demand ice cream!
Enter Uber, a mobile app with a primary focus of letting users in major cities call for a towncar or SUV with the tap of a finger.
But it has been known to expand its service in the name of media attention, like when it allowed users to call for a mariachi band instead of a car.
Well now, today only, in honor of National Ice Cream Month the app will allow users to call for an ice cream truck to arrive right outside their location.
The stunt is available for users in Boston, Chicago, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington DC (you hear that, Congress?)
Here’s how it works, per the official post on Uber’s blog:
* You can request ice cream by selecting the ‘ice cream cone icon’ in your Uber app.
* Set the location where you want the ice cream truck to show up and tap ‘request ice cream delivery here.’
* You’ll receive an ETA and be able to communicate with the driver.
* The ice cream truck will deliver five ice creams (you will have the option to order more when the truck arrives).
* We’ll bill your credit card card on file $12 for each bundle you order and hook you up with some give you some sweet Uber swag.
Uber general manager Michael Pao told the New York Times in an interview, “We’re offering a new way to experience ice cream similar to transportation. Opening your app and tapping a button and having something show up is magical when it comes to transportation. We feel it will be magical for other things too.”
