Chinese signal jammer retailer fined by FCC

Based on reader feedback I’ve modified this article to be less snippy. I apologize if I’ve offended anyone. GW

Garnering the largest fine ever levied by the FCC, Chinese electronics vendor CTS Technology has been fined a record $34.9 million for selling illegal signal jammers to U.S. citizens.

According to the FCC selling, buying or using a wireless signal jammer is illegal in the U.S. for everyone except law enforcement agencies. Primarily because they can prevent citizens from making 911 calls or first responders from communicating in emergencies.

Or, of course, if the government wants to spy on you.

The FCC has ordered CTS to stop marketing illegal jammers to U.S. consumers and identify the buyer of each jammer it sold in the U.S.

The company has 30 days to respond to the charges or pay the fine.

It will be interesting to see how (or if) CTS responds.
