Apple Computer plans to ship on Friday the iPod mini, a smaller version of its successful digital-music player, with a suggested retail price of $249. In a press release Tuesday, the company said the new product, which weighs 3.6 ounces, will be available in a choice of five colors through Apple retail stores, its online store, and authorized resellers throughout the U.S. The product is expected to be available worldwide in April. Apple said it has received more than 100,000 pre-orders for the iPod mini, which was introduced last month.
