TI sees 2004 Asian sales topping 30 pct

Texas Instruments, leading maker of chips for cellphones, said on Thursday it would rack up sales growth this year of more than 30 percent in Asia, excluding Japan, powered by strong handset demand. Terry Cheng, president of TI’s Asia operations outside Japan, also said in an interview that third-generation cellular handsets for China’s homegrown TD-SCDMA format should be ready for mass production by the end of 2005, providing a vote of confidence in the system over more widely used standards.
