NEC presented a desktop version of their AV PC (Audio Video PC) W900. The first thing to notice is its TV-like design and the size of the screen – a 26″ 1360 x 768 pixel TFT LCD. NEC offers two processors to go along with the PC: The W900 integrates a 2.80 GHz Pentium 4 520 and 300 GByte harddrive space; the the W700 comes witha Celeron 340 2.93 GHz CPU and 250 GByte.
Both models are based on Intel’s i915V chipset with integrated video functionality and a hardware MPEG2 decoder, a TV tuner, a DVD R/RW/RAM and DL burner. Pricing is expected to be just under $3000.
Moving on to the more traditional L VL700, that is more of a normal desktop PC with a 19″ screen and a double TV tuner, a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 630 and a hardware MPEG2 encoder. Similar to the W, there is a DVD R/RW/RAM and DL burner.
