Asus will begin shipping its Intel 955X-based motherboard P5WD2 on May 2, according to industry sources. In addition to the standalone product, the company will offer a bundle that includes a Wi-Fi-TC PCI card that communicates directly with the motherboard. The card will support 802.11a/b/g standards, integrate FM radio functionality, analog TV, digital TV (DVB-T) and come with video editing software.
The board supports Intel LGA775 processors, including the current Pentium 4 as well as the dual-core Pentium Extreme Edition and Pentium D. The P5WD2 also covers FSB 1066, dual-channel DDR2-667 memory, a PCIe x16 and three PCIe x1 slots, four SATA II ports. The premium version of the board will also include IEEE1394 interfaces. Pricing is expected in the range between $250 and $300 for the premium board. (THG)
