The mobile phone handsets market, which posted phenomenal growth in the last two years, is all set to slow down this year, an IDC report, called ‘Worldwide Mobile Phone 2005-2009 Forecast and Analysis’, has said.
In 2004, mobile phone shipments throughout the world saw a massive year-to-year increase of 32 per cent with 692 million units being shipped. This growth was mainly fuelled by the demand for multimedia, color display and digital camera phones. According to the report, 2005 would see an increase of only 20 million units and this would come mainly from emerging economies like those in Asia and Africa.
