HP Slate 7 tablet ships this June

Hewlett Packard’s (HP) Slate 7 may have tipped up on the FCC website this past week, although the Android-powered tablet likely won’t ship until June 2013.

The device – which hypes performance rather than price – is expected to sell for a cool $169.

Specs are definitely respectable, and include a slick 7-inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1.6 GHz Rockchip RK3066 ARM Cortex-A9 dual core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).

As an added bonus, the Slate 7 is equipped with a microSD card slot, front and rear cameras, and full support for the Google Play Store.

Of course, you can always pick up a 7-inch Kindle Fire HD for $214, while the Google Nexus 7 weighs in at $199 for an entry-level model.

Personally, I’d rather go with the Kindle Fire HD, rather than Slate 7, because I prefer Amazon’s comprehensive ecosystem to Google’s expansive Play Store.

Then again, if price is a priority, the Slate 7 is probably your best bet, as you can’t really go wrong at a $169 price point.
