Report: Apple iPhone 5S to launch in June

A confidential manufacturer catalogue detailing new cases and chargers for iPhone devices seems to point to a June 2013 launch of the iPhone 5S.

Although it is impossible to confirm the veracity of the catalogue, the alleged timeframe certainly makes a lot of sense, as Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster previously predicted, the iPhone 5S will begin shipping by the end of June.

Meanwhile, DigiTimes reports that “Apple’s supply chain will start shipping the components for the iPhone 5S at the end of May, so the next generation smartphone will likely have a chance of showing up in the third quarter.”

While Apple has yet to detail official specs for the upcoming handset, reports indicate the next-gen device will boast a Super HD display, a higher-end processor, 12-megapixel camera, a fingerprint sensor, near-field communications support (NFC) and perhaps even wireless charging.

In terms of the upcoming fifth-gen iPad 5, a 128GB iteration certainly doesn’t seem to be an impossibility, with the device likely to be equipped with a new A6X processor system-on-a-chip (SoC), lightning connector and optimized LTE support.

The iPhone 5S is expected to weigh in (with contract) at $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for 64GB. The iPad 5 could start at $499 for the 16GB model, scaling up to $599 and $699 for the other two models.
