Everything You Need to Know About Hair Transplantation

Male pattern baldness is a condition that has affected men for years. Unfortunately, losing hair is something that many men have to deal with. For some people, this isn’t a problem. For others, it can be the root of insecurity and can significantly impact a man’s quality of life. Hair loss has a lot of causes, the main one being genetics, but things like stress and diet can also cause early onset of hair loss. Unfortunately, once you lose your hair, it won’t come back.

Not much can be done about genetic hair loss. Generally, if you look at your dad, you’ll get a good idea for what the future has in store for you. But then, more recently, great strides have been made to cure baldness, mainly through hair transplantation. This is an area that scientists have put a lot of research into, in an attempt to help self-conscious men about their hair loss and need a solution.

A Brief History

In the 1980s, hair transplant surgeries began, with plugs becoming a popular option. Unfortunately, this technique gave varied results which were often unconvincing or looked unnatural.

In the 1990s, FUT hair transplantation was invented, which used a new technique called the strip technique. This includes taking a strip from the patient’s scalp, separating it, and then attaching it to the target area.

In the new millennium, another technique was created called FUE or follicular unit extraction. This is the process of building tiny incisions in the scalp to get to the patient’s hair follicles.

The FUT Technique

This is still a valid method and works by taking an area of the scalp and then slicing it into smaller grafts. Then, hair follicles are taken from this strip and inserted into the holes one by one. This takes quite long and means the patient needs to be sedated throughout the process.

The main disadvantage is there will be a scar where the skin was removed and then reattached, but the hair will grow to cover it. It means though that a very close trip is probably not possible without showing the scar. The advantages are that this is still a prevalent method that gives excellent results. It’s cheaper than the alternative methods, and rectifying a good amount of baldness is possible. Veraclinic.net is a great resource to find out more.

FUE Transplant

This is the process of using a needle that’s very narrow to harvest hairs and then transplanted back into the target area. This is perfect, as once the hair latches on, it will grow again just as they did from the area they were removed. The top layer of skin is the only one affected, and there are no scars after the treatment, although there’s still a couple of weeks of healing time. While this is a cleaner method, unfortunately, this naturally comes with a cost. The process takes a lot of time and skill. Because of that, it’s the more expensive of the two main methods.
