Video: Samsung’s Exynos 5-powered Arndale dev board in action

Samsung’s Arndale dev board features the flagship 1.7 GHz Exynos 5 Dual system-on-chip (SoC), which also powers Google’s recently launched ARM-based Chromebook.

As we’ve previously discussed on TG Daily, the Exynos 5 Dual SoC is based on ARM’s dual-core Cortex-A15 MPCore chip design, as well as ARM’s quad-core Mali-T604 GPU.

Additional specs include 2GB of RAM, HDMI, USB, SATA, Serial and JTAG connectors, as well as support for 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi direct. Priced at a reasonable $249, Arndale – which runs Android Jelly Bean – is targeted at the open source mobile developer community and can be used a test platform for gaming, security and multimedia apps.

Samsung’s dev board was recently showcased by the industry heavyweights ARM’s annual conference in San Jose. As Charbax of ArmDevices.net notes, the dev board currently runs Android, with Chrome OS and Ubuntu support slated for the near future.

In related news, ARM demoed an advanced dev board at the conference which uses real prototype silicon months in advance of actual chip releases.

In the video above, the Cambridge-based company demonstrates software that takes advantage of the big.LITTLE configuration with a dual-core ARM Cortex-A15 paired with a triple-core ARM Cortex-A7.
