Microsoft, Intel unveil Web-services spec

Microsoft and Intel are among the tech firms that have introduced a new specification designed to extend the reach of Web services beyond the PC to a broader range of devices.
Dubbed "WS-Discovery," the spec works with existing protocols to support information-sharing among computer peripherals, handhelds - such as PDAs and mobile phones - and consumer electronics products. The objective is to weave Web services together, providing greater flexibility for enterprises currently using a number of disjointed components in their systems and enabling more pervasive use of Web services.
