This Android-powered BenQ display doesn’t need a PC

Touchscreen capability is probably one of Microsoft’s biggest and most hyped Windows 8 selling points.

Now we all know that it’s easy enough to purchase a new Windows 8 notebook or tablet with touchscreen support, but those who use a deskptop might not have it so easy when they upgrade their PCs to the lastest version of Microsoft’s flagship OS.

So if you own a desktop computer and want to take advantage of the touch capability of Windows 8, BenQ has announced a new Smart Display with a touchscreen. One of the more interesting features of this device? It runs Google’s Android OS. Meaning, you can use the device – sans the PC.

The CT2200 measures 21.5-inches with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. As it runs Google’s Android OS (Ice Cream Sandwich), the display is powered by its own ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor paired with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of integrated storage.

Additional specs include a pair of USB ports, a microSD card slot, integrated Wi-Fi, and an Ethernet Jack. The display measures 20.3 x 14.4 x 2.6-inches and weighs 11 pounds. There is no internal battery, meaning you have to connect it to a power outlet. Oh, and yes, the screen also boasts an integrated 1.2-megapixel camera for taking pictures and making video calls.
