The New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Almost Here

Some time back, the frightening news hit that Michael Bay was going to ruin a major childhood favorite of many: The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The net erupted in fury over this, and Bay tried to keep the haters calm and convince them he wouldn’t f*ck it up.

We wrote about this a bit on TGD when the whole controversy erupted, then pretty much forgot about it until we saw that apparently the new Ninja Turtles movie is finished, and will be hitting theaters on May 16, 2014. We’d show you a picture of the Turtles from the new flick if we could, but Paramount’s been pulling them down everywhere. From our POV, they look okay, but nothing earthshattering. The good news is they don’t look unrecognizable either.

I for one will have to see the heroes in a half-shell in action before making any judgments, and I’m also hoping that the franchise can return to its comic roots, where it was actually a pretty cool series before it hit the big screen. The movies made the franchise more geared towards the little tykes, and many don’t realize that when Ninja Turtles was an underground comic, it actually had a lot of fans that were in their twenties.

While we don’t think this movie will be geared to older audiences, we’re indeed hoping that the next Ninja Turtles will be good. Having Michael Bay involved is a big strike against it already, but we’ll keep an open mind on this one and hope for the best. It’s been a long time since the Ninja Turtles were the hottest thing since sliced bread, and if this could revitalize the series, then we’re all for it.
