Peter Jackson Brings The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to the Fans

It’s great when filmmakers are fan friendly and keep their audiences in the loop. The geeks have always been a very powerful army, and even if you give them just a little to go on, they can really get behind your movie and promote the hell out of it. Here’s a new 3 minute trailer, and possibly last one before the movie is out.

Having been a major fanboy himself, Peter Jackson knows how important it is to keep the geeks up to date and informed, and he organized a world-wide fan event where he did a Q&A and showed about twenty minutes of footage from the movie.

Orland Bloom and Richard Armitage appeared from New York, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans and Lee Pace came in from London, Evangeline Lilly from L.A., and Peter Jackson from Wellington, New Zealand to talk about the movie. As Variety tells us, Jackson “channeled his inner hobbit” by appearing barefoot.

Jackson told the audience that making Smaug was “the most intense 10 weeks I think I’ve ever shot in my life. Normally in a film, you’d have quiet scenes and you’d have climatic scenes and it sort of all evens itself out, but this was kind of ten weeks of pretty intense stuff.” Channeling his inner Andy Serkis, Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing Smaug, via motion capture.

Look for the Desolation of Smaug on December 13. Enjoy the latest, 3-minute long trailer below. We love this stuff.
