The Avengers box set is coming this September

There are some box sets that are so unwieldy and expensive, you often wonder who’s going to buy them.

Scarface is one of my all time favorite movies, but to spend nearly a grand for the edition that comes with a humidor just isn’t for me. The upcoming Dark Shadows box set that arrives in a coffin and has all 1,225 of episodes of the show and costs $599.98 list can probably also be classified as a “real fanatics only” item.

But I am willing to bet that when this Avengers box set hits, it’s probably going fly off the shelves. As Cinema Blend tells us, a link for this particular box set has already popped up on Amazon, and it’s called the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled. It’s a ten disc limited edition that features The Avengers Blu Ray in 3D and flat, Captain America: The First Avenger on Blu-ray 3D and regular Blu-ray, Thor 3D and regular, Iron Man I and II, The Incredible Hulk, and a bonus disc called The Phase One Archives, along with other goodies you’d expect from box sets.

This box set will set you back a cool $153.30, or $22.55 per movie. But again, I’m still willing to bet this will do well, because the Marvel marathons they had at the theaters pre-Avengers sold out a month in advance, and there’s no doubt when The Avengers comes out by itself on DVD and Blu-Ray, it’s going to sell like nobody’s business. Just when you thought this movie couldn’t possibly make any more money, right?

While there is no official release date for the box set yet, if you want to buy The Avengers by itself on DVD / Blu-Ray, the package will reportedly go live on September 25.

It will also be interesting to see how much the other Marvel movies will sell for people who’ll want to watch the movies before the Avengers, much like you can watch all the Star Wars films in order.

While some of the previous superhero flicks, like Iron Man 2 and Hulk didn’t deliver, it could still be fun to watch ‘em all together, compare and contrast, and have Marvel marathons with your fellow geek brethren.
