Birdman Inspires Wolverine

As we all know by now, Birdman won Best Picture, and while Michael Keaton didn’t win Best Actor, it’s great to have him back. In fact, Birdman has given plenty of inspiration to Hugh Jackman, who is now apparently no longer afraid of playing Wolverine his whole life, if he ever was.

It’s very easy to get stereotyped into a role, something Jackman certainly knows, even though he’s proven a very versatile talent. But he told Cigar Aficionado and io9 that after watching Birdman, “The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die. I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor…I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”

Well, it is indeed iconic, and there is some selfishness on the side of the fans as well, because it’s going to be really hard to imagine anyone else in that role, although Christian Bale certainly did a great job when the Batman torch was passed to him.

It’s also interesting to notice that J.K. Simmons, who brought Jonah Jameson to life in the Spider-Man flicks, and who won Best Supporting Actor last night, will be in Michael Keaton’s next movie, Skull Island, the spin-off film of King Kong.
