Former President of the United States of America and Hip Hop aficionado, Barack Obama once said, “The thing about hip-hop today is it’s smart, it’s insightful. The way they can communicate a complex message in a very short space is remarkable”. We totally agree with Barry! New school Hip Hop has taken the genre to a whole new level. Artists today are experimenting not just with their words but also with the music. Electronic sub-genres such as Dubstep and Trap have made their way into the Hip Hop scene which has given it a whole new identity. Today’s Hip Hop artists are collaborating with artists of various genres to bring out their best. All in all, Hip Hop today is being played in more homes than it did about 10 years back. New school artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, Big Sean and many more are as revered today as Hip Hop legends like Eminem, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z among many more. Another name to join the ranks of the above is Brooklyn native, TK Bands.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, TK Bands aka Jeffrey Almanzar found his calling in Hip Hop at a very young age. Growing up in one of the roughest neighborhoods, Jeffrey had to go through numerous obstacles in order to simply survive. The struggle of everyday life made him pen down his thoughts and hardships into poems. In spite of being a full time rapper, TK Bands says, “I am a writer first and then a rapper”. After reciting his poems for his friends, they suggested he convert it into songs and what better genre than Hip Hop is out there to vent out your anger and rage! His friends encouraged him to produce his tracks professionally which later achieved critical acclaim.
After achieving some amount of fame due to his songs, TK Bands caught eyes and ears of numerous artists who wished to collaborate with him. One of his most famous songs, ‘Never Heard Of’ features fellow Brooklyn artist, Uncle Murda who is currently signed to 50 Cent’s music label, G-Unit Records. Some of his other popular songs include “I Got Time”, “You Already Know”, “Love Me” and “On the Move”. TK Bands’ latest album ‘Artist of the Year’ is available for free online streaming on his website www.tkbands.com. After performing in the Hip Hop scene for over 5 years, we asked about his future plans and he replied, “I have big plans for the future.
