Another Rock Series is Headed to Cable, Thanks to Scorsese and Jagger

We just reported that Cameron Crowe is finally back with a new series, Roadies, and now Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger have a new rock n roll series as well, this one for HBO, which will start shooting next year.

The show has no title yet, but Scorsese is going to direct the pilot, which will star Ray Romano, Olivia Wilde, Andrew Dice Clay, as well as a large gang of ensemble actors. This show takes place in the ‘70’s in the music business right as punk and disco become the clashing musical styles near the end of the decade.

The show centers around a fictional record label, American Century, run by Romano, and Dice will play a DJ. Those who know the history of the music business in the ‘70’s knows there’s a lot of insanity that went on in those days that could be something out of GoodFellas in terms of the drugs and payola corruption, and it’s long overdue to be captured in a dramatic format.

As a big fan of the great rock movies of the ‘70’s, I’m still hoping that the rock movie will one day indeed have a comeback. Since we have much more in-depth storytelling these days on cable, here’s hoping the great rock n roll movie can have a comeback this time on cable.
