Vuzix Wrap has 16:9 widescreen, priced at $600

Vuzix has launched its Wrap 1200VR – a pair of futuristic glasses that boasts a 16:9 widescreen, virtual display and head tracking for step-inside gaming.

Vuzix claims the supersized display, which offers a 35 degree field of view, is equivalent to watching 3D content on a 75 inch display from 10 feet away.

“The Wrap 1200VR allows our customers to step into another world, creating an immersive gaming or movie watching experience,” said Vuzix CEO Paul Travers.

“With new tracking sensor technology and improved WVGA displays that support resolutions of up to 1280×720 (720p), the Wrap 1200VR provides the best consumer level VR solution available today.”

To be sure, the device features individual focus for each eye and is also loaded with optics that allow the user to easily position the displays to match his or her IPD (Interpupillary Distance or eye separation).

In addition, the 1200VR also supports the latest side-by-side 3D video format, as well as 100 titles for 3D video and/or head tracking, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Fallout 3 and F.E.A.R.

The Wrap 1200VR connects to virtually any Windows graphic card desktop or laptop computer, while optional interfaces enable the device to connect to component video devices like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

One obvious downside to the 1200VR is the price – as the Wrap currently retails at a cool $600.

Ouch.
