Breaking up is hard to do, but the White Stripes had to come to an end eventually. After 13 years of countless albums, tours, and music-making, the band called it quits, announcing the news via their website on Wednesday. The release on the band’s site does not cite any ill will between Jack and Meg, and assures fans that both musicians are in good health. According to the statement, the Stripes are no more because the duo wants to “preserve what is beautiful and special” about their music, among other reasons. After a thank you to their fans, the White Stripes are moving along to other projects. A second break up announcement this week: Monotonix.
