The Old Republic goes live on December 20

The long-awaited Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO will go live on December 20, 2011 in North America.

Set thousands of years before the rise of the infamous Darth Vader, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online game which features epic quests and dynamic combat across a number of planets, including the desert Tatooine, beautiful Alderaan and frigid Hoth.

Players can choose whether to join forces with either the Galactic Republic or Sith Empire and select one of eight iconic Star Wars characters: Jedi knight, Jedi consular, smuggler, trooper, bounty hunter, Imperial agent, Sith inquisitor and Sith warrior.

The cadence and outcome of the Old Republic will be based on choices made throughout the game, as players encounter companion characters with whom they can build and break meaningful relationships as they fight by their side.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently available for pre-order at a number of retailers. Players who place pre-orders will receive a redemption code to unlock early game access – before December 20.

Included with the purchase of every copy of Star Wars: The Old Republic is 30 days of access to the game, after which players can continue to play via a subscription of either $14.99 per month, $41.97 for 3 months, or $77.94 for six months.
