Barnes and Noble’s Nook e-reader, which sold out over the holidays, is back on sale online and in stores – just in time for Valentine’s Day, says the company, hopefully.
Just in time to compete with the iPad might be more like it.
The company has ramped up production and now reckons it can meet demand. The Nook is avaialble online now, and should be hitting the shelves in stores from this week.
The company has also launched Nook version 1.2. It says that automatic over-the-air updates, which do not require any action from nook customers, are underway and will be conducted seamlessly through this week. Users can browse books, magazines and newspapers through the in-store Wifi.

B&N is offering special promotional offers instore, including a short story by Adriana Trigiani, a Valentine’s cupcake recipe and a guide to matching books with the perfect wine.
“Demand for Nook continues to be very high, and we’re pleased our customers will be able to try and buy Nook in our stores and online and enjoy it in time for the holiday,” said B&N president William J Lynch.
“In Barnes & Noble stores, Nook owners will enjoy exciting Nook-only content from their favorite authors and other valuable offers, along with fast and free in-store Wifi, which Nook customers have been accessing in droves over the last few weeks.”
Online, the Nook will cost $259, with free shipping.
