"I Gotta Feeling" surpasses 6 million digital downloads

The Black Eyed Peas’ hit song I Gotta Feeling, which has been ranked as the top-selling iTunes track of all time, has now become the first song to be legally downloaded more than 6 million times.

The song was released just over a year ago in June 2009 but it skyrocketed above songs that had been available on iTunes and other digital download services for years. The track has, on average, been purchased about once every five seconds since it was first made available.

“I am so proud to be leading our industry with 6 million digital sales. It means so much for the future of the music industry,” said Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am in a statement.

I Gotta Feeling has made music history all around. In addition to being the most popular digital download ever, it spent 14 weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard charts, a record. That, combined with the group’s other hit Boom Boom Pow, spent a combined 26 consecutive weeks at the top spot, another record.

The official Youtube music video of I Gotta Feeling has been viewed more than 36 million times, while Boom Boom Pow is over 64 million. The Black Eyed Peas are clearly leading the way when it comes to bringing music to the digital space.
