Gorillaz Announce First World Tour And More [Unplugging]

TGIF is the new carpe diem. Time for us to take a tour of the menagerie of music with Unplugging. We are so chill, y’all.

There’s a first time for everything, and in this case, it’s the Gorillaz first ever world tour, making stops in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The group will be touring in support of their new album, Plastic Beach, which is apparently a video game now called “Escape to Plastic Beach.” Aptly named the Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour 2010, it will include the well-known multimedia experience that is ever-present at Gorillaz’s live shows.

Kanye West has also been in the news lately as he debuts new songs and joins the Twitterverse. West sang some of his new material at the Facebook headquarters on Wednesday, however the new album title is still up in the air. I’m glad he’s on Twitter though – now I can read tweets like “classical music is tight yo” to get me through a bad day.

New music this week includes Daft Punk, The Glitch Mob, Zach Hill, Marnie Stern, and Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Cheyenne Marie Minz. Daft Punk will be taking on the soundtrack for the new “Tron: Legacy” movie. The Glitch Mob are promoting the release of the Drink the Sea remix album with a free download of “Fistful of Silence (ESKMO Remix),” the first track from the album. Zach Hill has announced a solo album with plenty of high-profile guest musicians. Marnie Stern is releasing a self-titled album out October 5th, and finally, Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Cheyenne Marie Mize have released a short album, Among the Gold, for free. The album is full of beautiful duets of 19th Century American parlor music selected by the duo, which is perfect for summer days in the sunshine.
