Beavis and Butthead are ready for prime time

Beavis and Butthead are scheduled to return to MTV on October 27. The rebooted series will undoubtedly feature certain favorite elements from the original show, with some new things thrown in as well.

Of course, whether fans think the new Beavis and Butthead will be “cool” or is gonna “suck” still remains to be seen.

Like the Brady Bunch movies, although the world changed a lot since the ‘90’s, Beavis and Butthead are still stupid, still can’t get any play from girls, and as previously mentioned, are still wearing their AC/DC and Metallica shirts. Hmm, I wonder if their fat geek neighbor will still have his Winger shirt on?

Now they’re gonna be making fun of shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Wolf, and 16 and Pregnant. It’s not clear if they’re going to make fun of hair bands anymore, or maybe they beat that corpse to death, and now it’s time for all new targets. (If they can help slay reality TV too that would be very cool).

As we previously discussed on TG, the real question is will Beavis and Butthead strike a chord with today’s generation or not? I, along with many others, have fond memories of watching the show, but the last episode aired back in 1997, a whole other lifetime in popular culture, and for this generation Family Guy is still the cool animated show.

Can Beavis and Butthead compete today with the animated shows it helped inspire, and will today’s generation find something fresh and cool to enjoy from them, or consider them yesterday’s news?

B&B creator Mike Judge proved he wasn’t a one hit wonder with King of the Hill, Office Space, and Idiocracy, so it’s interesting to see him take a step back to the cartoon that made his career.

Judge told the L.A. Times he didn’t seriously consider going back to B&B until last year.

He thought of doing another movie, but doing episodic TV was much less work intensive and there’d be less pressure than doing another movie.

Turning to his inner idiot, Judge said, “When everything is right, Beavis and Butt-Head is the best thing I do. It’s the funniest thing I do and the most satisfying.”
