All Harry Potter films may be re-released in 3D

Harry may not be leaving the theaters any time soon.

The final installment in the long-running Harry Potter film series will come out later this year, putting an end to the huge Warner Bros cash cow. Or maybe not.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will be the only entry in the franchise to debut in 3D, but now the movie studio is apparently looking into remaking all of the previous titles in 3D, and then re-releasing them to the big screen.

It wouldn’t be the only movie series to be remastered and presented for theater audiences again, but this is certainly the only series we can think of where such a discussion takes place before all the films are even screened for the first time.

Previously, rumor had it Warner Bros wanted to release all Harry Potter titles in 3D for home media and streaming, but now it’s seeming more plausible that they’ll come out theatrically first.

George Lucas will be presenting all six Star Wars classics in 3D and re-releasing them to theaters in chronological order. James Cameron is also working on bringing back Titanic in 3D for a special 2012 release.

For now, the only Harry Potter title with 3D confirmed is The Deathly Hallows Part 2, and that opens in theaters on July 15.
